Maria Francis Palafox, PhD
About Me
I am on a mission to understand the molecular mechanisms of disease and support the design of precision therapies. By the time I was in high school, I had been captivated by the concept of personalized care and its potential to profoundly improve a person's quality of life. My fascination led me to study nutritional sciences for college, where I studied the influence of genetics on an individual's response to exercise. Following my degree in Advanced Nutritional Sciences, I joined the Human Genetics graduate program at UCLA and first studied sex differences in metabolism and immunology, only to later pivot my focus on bridging the domains of rare disease genetics and chemoproteomics to prioritize clinically relevant protein-altering mutations. When I am not working on research, I do my best to stay up-to-date with the ever-evolving landscape of precision healthcare: from all industry stakeholders to exciting innovations in biotech, medical devices, tools and diagnostics, and healthcare service sectors. This site showcases my contribution to science and education. Thanks for visiting!
